We honor our volunteers as external factors lead to program closure after 27 years
York, Pennsylvania – July 9, 2025
Several factors converged this past winter to provide a natural time for Community Progress Council to evaluate the Foster Grandparent Program and determine how it aligns with our mission to empower people toward economic self-sufficiency.
Based on these considerations and in conjunction with uncertainties around the program’s federal funding, we ultimately made the difficult choice not to renew our application for the next grant cycle.
This means the Foster Grandparent Program will not continue after July 1, 2025.
We are grateful to have run the program for the past 27 years in York County. Did you know our first volunteers entered the classroom in March 1998?
Hundreds of volunteers have participated in the program since then, many giving tens of thousands of hours of their time.
The 2024-25 school year ended with 39 active Foster Grandparent volunteers in classrooms across York County.
We remain committed to connecting former Foster Grandparent Program volunteers and all seniors in York County with resources and support to help them move toward economic stability and ultimately self-sufficiency.
Please reach out to us at 717-846-4600.
Through coaching, participants can connect with resources, review their budget plan to accommodate changes in their income, and receive guidance and encouragement toward other goals they have.
We look forward to continuing to engage seniors and people of all ages through coaching and all of our comprehensive, integrated services.
