Work Ready offers special
assistance to welfare clients receiving TANF (Temporary
Assistance for Needy Families) who have particularly
difficult issues to overcome such as medical, childcare, or
transportation issues. Staff in this program provide
employment and training services as well as case management,
with the ultimate goal of placing the client in a job.
There are 2 components to the
Program - The Supported Work Component and the Outreach
Component.
Supported Work (SWP)
- Provides TANF clients with education, skills training,
work activities, and job placement services designed to
enable them to become self-sufficient.
-
Most clients referred to this
program have limited employability as determined by a
physician, and will be required to work 20 hours or less
per week.
-
They will be provided with
intensive case management services throughout their
participation in the program.
-
A job coach will provide them
with individualized job development services to find
employment, and staff may work with them for 12 months
in order to reach this goal.
Outreach (OS) -
This component is designed to help clients who are in
non-compliance of DPW regulations to avoid sanctions that
may result in the loss of cash benefits.
-
Outreach workers locate
referred clients and make home visits to determine what
assistance the client will need in order to participate
in work requirements.
-
Referrals are made to assist
with childcare and transportation needs, and clients
with medical issues are assisted with the completion of
medical forms if they are unable to work.
-
Transportation may be
provided to appointments and to the employment and
training program if the client is referred to one.
