Pre-K Counts

Pre-K Counts is a pre-kindergarten program dedicated to making high quality early childhood education available to York City families. Our program's goal is to prepare children in reading and math and also for paying attention, following directions and getting along with others. We will provide services to 4 year olds in the district so that they can enter school ready to learn and succeed in school and in life.

Mission

To provide high quality pre-kindergarten experience to York City families by building a quality early education system so the children have the best educational experience possible from the early years through graduation.

Services

  1. Classrooms available in most of the district's elementary schools.

  2. Teachers with the education and expertise to teach young children.

  3. Small class size (no more than 20 children to 2 teachers); means more one-on-one time for students.

  4. Appropriate early childhood curriculum aligned with the Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards.

  5. Opportunities for parent conferences to review your child's progress.

  6. Assistance for child and family to ease adjustment into pre-kindergarten and on to kindergarten.

Message From the Coordinator

Thank you to all the families who chose to be part of Pre-K Counts this year.  All of our classrooms are currently full.  If you are interested in taking part in our program, applications are available at each of the elementary schools.  You can fill out an application and return it to your home school and be placed on a waiting list in the event that an opening becomes available in that classroom.
What is being said about Pre-K Counts?

"I love the professional atmosphere of the school setting with the age appropriate curriculum we are using. The children have never experienced many of the activities we have introduced to them. Their retention of what we have taught them is amazing." - Pre-K Counts Teacher

"Since my son has been in this classroom he has been using more words in his vocabulary. He is also interacting more appropriately with children in the neighborhood." - Parent of a Pre-K Counts Student at Goode Elementary
