WIC participants can
receive free health screenings to determine nutritional risks and
referrals to other health, social service, or community agencies.
Health
Screenings
-
WIC
measures height, weight, does a blood test and reviews each
participant's medical history as well as their dietary intake to
help determine nutritional risks.
-
WIC screens children
under 2 years old for immunizations.
-
Any child in need of
immunizations is referred to a health care provider that
provides immunizations.
Referrals
The screenings help determine which
health and social service organizations can be of assistance to
participants. Examples would be Food Stamp Program, CHIP, and
Medical Assistance. Participants not currently receiving medical
care are encouraged to seek and maintain appropriate services. In
return, many other community organizations refer their clients to
WIC. |
