The Pennsylvania Low
Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps low
income people pay their heating bills through home heating
energy assistance grants and crisis grants. You do not need
to have an unpaid bill to receive home heating energy
assistance. You can receive this money without being in the
Cash Assistance program. No lien is placed on your property
if you receive this help. LIHEAP is a grant, so you do
not have to repay it. This program runs from November 3,
2008 until March 31, 2008. The Department of Public
Welfare may extend or shorten the program depending upon
availability of federal funds.
Cash Grants
Cash grants help
families pay their heating bills. The grant payment is sent
directly to your utility company or fuel provider, and it
will be credited on your bill. (In some cases, the check may
come to you directly.)
Crisis Grants
Additional money may be
available if you have an emergency situation and are in
jeopardy of losing your heat. Emergency situations can
include:
-
Broken heating
equipment or leaking lines that must be fixed or
replaced
-
Lack of fuel
-
Termination of
utility service
-
Danger of being
without fuel or having utility service terminated
York county residents
are encouraged to call 717-846-4600 with questions or
concerns about crisis situations.
